About
the book
Holding out for a hero, or
heroine.
It was wonderful to have someone to share with, travel with, enjoy...
but sometimes challenging to adapt to married life after years of being
a singleton. I wondered if I was the only one who needed more time to
myself, didn’t take to all his partners and had a sulky dog. I talked
to men and women who had also fallen in love
late. As well as how they met, what was different this time, and how
the relationship had developed, I asked them how they knew this was The
One. Those who married talked about the ceremony and the commitment
that they had made, as well as the challenges overcome like baggage,
language, exes, parental approval, where to live and how to celebrate.
Most importantly they shared how they
keep the spark in their relationship.
Many of the men and women I am interviewing are expats, humanitarian
aid workers or living far from their country of origin. Their stories
are illuminating and inspiring to those who are still looking, helpful
to newlyweds and encouraging to long term couples.
The concept of this relationship guide to love over 40 was well
received by agents and writers invited to the Geneva Writers’ Group
(GWG) “Meet the agents” workshop in Geneva in February 2011.
